Someone sent you your kid's reel
A parent or coach on your team filmed the game and marked the good moments while they happened. What landed in your messages is your kid's highlights, cut out of that game. Here is the rest of it, in the order people ask.
The short version
- You don't have to do anything. There's nothing to install and no account to make.
- The game footage sits on the phone or iPad of the person who filmed. It isn't uploaded anywhere.
- It costs you nothing, now or later.
- If you'd rather your kid wasn't filmed, the person who filmed is the one to ask.
1 Do I need to do anything?
- No. The reel arrived as an ordinary video file, so it plays the way any video someone texts you plays. Android, iPhone, laptop, all fine.
- Save it if you want to keep it. On most phones that's a long press on the video, then Save. It's yours: send it to grandma, put it on the fridge screen, whatever you like.
- There's no app for you, no login, no link that expires. We never see your kid's video, and we have no account or address for you.
- If the video won't play or never arrived, ask the person who sent it to send it again. They still have it.
2 Where does my kid's video live, and who has it?
- On the device of the person who filmed, and now on yours. That's the whole list.
- SplashReel is an app that runs on their iPad or iPhone. It doesn't upload video. There's no cloud library, no shared album, no server holding a copy, and no account anywhere with your kid's name on it.
- We can't watch your kid's game. We don't have it and we never did. It's the same as if that parent had filmed on the normal camera app, except the app also cut the good bits out for them.
- They chose the clips and they chose to send them to you. Anything beyond that, like posting a reel publicly, is their choice too, and your club's filming rules apply to them the same as to any parent with a phone.
- If you want the detail, it's all in the privacy policy.
3 Is this going to cost me anything?
- No. Receiving a reel is free and always will be. There's nothing to sign up for, so there's nothing to cancel and no card to hand over.
- SplashReel is a tool the person filming uses. When it costs money, it costs them, not the families they send reels to.
- Nobody is going to email you about this. We don't have your address.
4 I'd rather my kid wasn't in it
- Ask the person who filmed. They hold the footage, so they're the only one who can pull your kid out of a reel or delete the clips, and it takes them a few taps.
- Don't know who that was? Your coach or team manager will, because it's usually the same parent every game.
- Ask before the next game too, so it doesn't come up again. A tagger would much rather know in advance.
- We can't do it for you. We have no copy of the video and no way to reach their device.
Want this for your team?
Someone on your team is already filming every game. SplashReel is what turns that into a reel for every player they tag, instead of one.
One person films and taps the plays as they happen. No editing that night, no laptop, no pool Wi-Fi. By the final whistle, every play they tagged is a clip sorted by player, and a player's reel takes a few taps.
Asked to point your phone at the pool for someone? That's the 30-second version.
